We’re back this week with Shadowhunters 3×12 “Original Sin,” and this episode had quite a lot to unpack. We went on a sewer adventure with Sizzy, took a strange trip back to the Seelie Court, Jace and Luke were on a mission that involved them wearing snowshoes, and all sorts of tragically romantic moments happened. Here are some of the bite-size bests that stood out.
1: Steamiest Scene:
Malec gets a little competitive.
Alec and Magnus’ training session was hard, fast, sweaty, and flirty. Alec’s best attempts at getting Magnus to take self-defense seriously fell completely apart, ending in a very different kind of wrestling. Malec fans were already swooning when the workout ended with an order to hit the bedroom and we certainly were not expecting to see some afterglow to boot! Also, major kudos are in order for Alec tending to Magnus’ emotional needs as well as his anxieties about being mortal. We’d call that quite the productive day. Could they be more perfect?
2: Weirdest Day:
It was a weird day, even by Simon’s standards.
Simon is having a bit of doozy again this week (although, isn’t he always?). Raphael – whom we love and can do no wrong – didn’t seem to find it relevant to mention that the oldest vampire in the world is Cain himself…as in “Cain and Abel” Cain. After trouncing through the sewers and fending off rats, Simon finds Cain – who is a surprisingly helpful and kind man for someone who is (if all the legends are indeed true) the world’s first murderer and has been living in the NYC sewers. Cain gives Simon the very rock he used to kill his brother, Abel, for ritual-to-remove-the-Mark purposes (neat) and then it’s off to the fairy realm. And, honestly, isn’t that a wild trip all on its own? Getting the Mark off turns out to be only half the battle when Simon is forced to drink from Izzy – who he knows is a recovering vampire-venom addict. A lot went on here for both of them, but, hey, this is kind of just par for the course when it comes to Simon.
3: Weekly Dose Of Incest:
Jonathan Morgenstern makes it weird.
Y’all, we didn’t want to have to do this again, but Jonathan’s weird obsession with Clary just calls for it. Look, family on this show is complicated; we get that. But the Morgensterns are always raising the bar for weird family shit. Sure, maybe it’s just innocent (you know, not homicidal) curiosity on Jonathan’s part, but watching your sister change before taking her on what’s ostentatiously a date in romantic Paris is just…peak incest vibes. Thankfully, that creepy party is crashed by Jace, who has searched the globe for Clary along with her stepfather, Luke. Family trees are like spaghetti on this show, Shadowhunters just be like that sometimes.
But all the eek-iness was worth it for that picturesque true love’s kiss Clace shared in front of the Eiffel Tower as they reunited. Swoon.
